West Ham have confirmed striker Michail Antonio is in a stable condition, conscious and able to communicate after a car crash.
In a recent statement, West Ham said: “Antonio is under intensive care at a central London hospital.”
“In this difficult time, we ask everyone to respect the privacy of Mikhail and his family,” the club added.
“The club will not be commenting further today but will provide further updates at a later date.”
West Ham say Antonio’s car accident happened on Saturday afternoon local time in the Essex area.
West Ham face Wolves in their next Premier League game on Monday night.
Antonio, 34, moved to West Ham from Nottingham Forest in 2015 and has scored 68 goals in 268 league appearances for the club.
A number of clubs, including Arsenal, Chelsea and Manchester City. Have responded to West Ham’s statement on the X platform, sending their best wishes to Antonio.
The Premier League has also responded. Saying that the club’s “thoughts and prayers” go out to “Antonio, his family, his friends and all at West Ham.”
