McKenna says Phillips is likely to be out of the season

Ipswich boss Kieran McKenna feels it is unlikely that on-loan Manchester City midfielder Kalvin Phillips will play again in the Premier League this season but would be open to the possibility of him returning to Portman Road next season.

The 29-year-old has struggled with injuries on several occasions during his time with the White Horses.

A hamstring problem สมัคร UFABET วันนี้ รับเครดิตฟรีสำหรับสมาชิกใหม่ means Phillips is unlikely to feature in Ipswich’s final two top-flight games, with Sunday’s trip to Leicester and the season-ending trip to West Ham.

Although Phillips has struggled with fitness issues, making just 14 Premier League appearances for Ipswich. McKenna has no doubts about how well the former England midfielder is settling into the side.

“He came here having not play much football in the two seasons before that. If he had come here and played a lot of football. He probably wouldn’t be at Ipswich this season,” McKenna said.

“He’s a good member of the team and has been quite consistent in the early stages of the season as he continues to try and find his best form.”

“It feels like during training and on game day, he’s been good and consistent,”

“Then he suffered a major injury to his foot in the game against Spurs. Had to get stitches and had to rest.”

“We can bring him back into the team, but he’s probably not fully fit or hasn’t trained well.”

“Then he had a little problem with his achilles tendon and will not be able to play this weekend.”

“Will we be able to field him again before the end of the season? At this point, it’s unlikely.”

“In many ways I think it’s frustrating for him and for us that we haven’t been able to get him back to his best form as quickly as we could and not have Calvin who is fully fit and confident throughout the season because he could have been a great addition to our team.”
