Written for the Yellow Submarine soundtrack, “Hey Bulldog” is a hard-hitting rock song that revolves around a piano-based riff, something that the Beatles rarely did. It’s also one of the rare studio-recorded pieces that show the unabashed enthusiasm of the band during a recording session, a stark contrast to the palpable tension seen in Let it Be. Watching John Lennon and Paul McCartney just having fun while singing, shouting, and barking is infectious.

The video recording of the song was also part of the “Lady Madonna” promotional recording while The Beatles were making Abbey Road.
