Since I technically missed a day, I thought what better way to make up for it than with two songs that actually function as one? “Sgt. Pepper’s Lonely Hearts Club Band” and “With a Little Help From My Friends” are the first two songs off of the album Sgt. Pepper’s Lonely Hearts Club Band. An early concept album, “Sgt. Pepper” at the beginning and a reprise on side two of the album framed the songs within the context of seeing a band performing, emphasized perfectly in the way “Sgt. Pepper” sets up and leads into “With a Little Help From My Friends”. Sung by Ringo Starr, though within the framework of the album he’s Billy Shears, it’s a conversational piece between Starr and the other Beatles as Starr is asked various questions, laments the lack of love in his life, yet praises his friends for being there for him. The music and lyrics were written by Lennon and McCartney who specifically put the song in Starr’s key.

“With a Little Help From My Friends” was also a huge hit for Joe Cocker whose gospel cover of the song was used as the opening theme for the 80s drama The Wonder Years.
