According to The Beatles’ long time producer, George Martin, “In My Life” was John Lennon’s favorite Beatles song. It was also the closest to an autobiography since Lennon initially wrote the song in response to a reporter saying that Lennon should try to incorporate more personal material into his music. Finding what he wrote to be fairly boring, Lennon reconfigured a lot of the song, making it more about general musings on the past that could be experienced by everyone instead of going into specifics.
